Santa

Kids have a lot of fun with the idea of Santa, but I've always struggled with the idea that our society lies to the children. Dennis and I decided we would celebrate Christmas with gifts from Santa, but that our kids would know we were Santa. (Later I had a friend who told her kids she was Santa's helper and that seemed like a good in-between stance.)

One day I got a phone call from a neighbor who's boy played with Heather. She was very upset because Heather had 'spilled the beans' about Santa. This neighbor said she was sending her son over to my house and that I must tell him that Heather was wrong. I told her I didn't want to lie to him and she insisted which put me in a terrible position. I compromised my telling him in our family we called people who give gifts at Christmas Santa. He went home OK and his mom and I stayed friends.
