Heather's Question

Dennis and I were married in the Salt Lake City temple. We always had a picture of the temple hanging in the living room. When Heather was quite young, maybe not quite three years old she came to me one day and pointed to the picture. She said that's where you and Daddy's got married and I said, yes. Then she asked why I had a white rag on my face.

Women wear veils in the temple, but of course Heather had no way of knowing this.Neither Dennis nor I had discussed temple clothing with her. Her Grandma Dean had been there a few days before and I called to ask her if she had talked with Heather about any of this and she said no.

Was Heather remembering something she had witnessed?

As a supervisor at the library it was my responsibility to enforce library policies and sometimes that was very challenging. Twain Thomas was a patron who had repeatedly refused to obey the policies and procedures for using the Internet computers and had finally been banned from using them forever. After a year or so he came in and tried to use them again. I was afraid to talk to him because he had quite a temper, so I asked my supervisor to stand near by while I talked with him. He did get upset, but ultimately left and we breathed and big sigh of relief. Not too long after that the following appeared on the news and we were even more grateful that he had left the library with just some arguing and grumbling. He could have attacked me. Quite a surprise!

In December of 2013 my former roommate, Irene, published a book.  I had not heard from her for several years, but we found each other on Facebook and she told me she was an author. I found her book on amazon.com and ordered it for the library. She had become a life coach and the book deals with some of her views and thoughts. Imagine my surprise when I found I was the subject of the first paragraph of the book!!!!! I do want to say I believe I was saying that bit each morning as a class assignment. Everybody Knew Ralph Sharp

My Dad, Ralph LaVar Sharp, loved people. He would get to know everyone he could. When he met anyone he liked to figure out connections. Maybe they were his neighbor's cousin's son, or the  mayor's brother's daughter-in-law. He would remember these connections and it seemed like he never forgot anyone. We used to talk about it a lot. When he didn't come home for dinner my mom would just say he must have run into someone he knew and we would eat without him (which bothered him, but 6 hungry kids had a hard time waiting and there were no cell phones then). As an example, he and Mom went to New Zealand for a vacation and of course, he knew the man at the car rental desk.
