ESP

ESP, or extra sensory perception, is controversial. I've read a few things about it over the years. It interests me and I'm open to the idea that things happen. Don't get me wrong, I don't think people 'read' your mind across the room like in a magic show.

Growing up there were eight people in our house and only one bathroom so it was common for more than one person to be in there at a time in the morning. One day Dad and I were there. I was brushing my teeth. Mom was pregnant with Eric and had been on bed rest for high blood pressure. Dad told me that Mom wasn't feeling well and if she didn't feel better soon I would need to stay home from school to take care of Wayne and Dad would take her to the hospital. I said OK.

Dad was surprised. He said he hadn't said anything to me and what was I talking about? So, of course I told him what I had heard him say. He said he had been thinking that, but hadn't yet vocalized it.

I have to keep an open mind about ESP.

As a supervisor at the library it was my responsibility to enforce library policies and sometimes that was very challenging. Twain Thomas was a patron who had repeatedly refused to obey the policies and procedures for using the Internet computers and had finally been banned from using them forever. After a year or so he came in and tried to use them again. I was afraid to talk to him because he had quite a temper, so I asked my supervisor to stand near by while I talked with him. He did get upset, but ultimately left and we breathed and big sigh of relief. Quite a surprise!

In December of 2013 my former roommate, Irene, published a book.  I had not heard from her for several years, but we found each other on Facebook and she told me she was an author. I found her book on amazon.com and ordered it for the library. She had become a life coach and the book deals with some of her views and thoughts. Imagine my surprise when I found I was the subject of the first paragraph of the book!!!!! I do want to say I believe I was saying that bit each morning as a class assignment. Somehow people think that librarians read for work. They say things like, "I wish I had a job where I could just read." I would answer, "So do I." Of course, it was expected that as employees we would readers and be ready to refer people to titles.
