Widow Zarephath (1 Kings 17)
The widow Zarephath fed Elijah during a time of famine from a barrel of flour and a jar of oil that never became empty, even though there was originally only a handful of meal and a little oil. I have often thought of this miracle and wondered how she felt.
For the last 2 years I have been crocheting hats and giving them to the needy and local charities. I have not purchased much of the yarn. People who hear what I am doing give me yarn they no longer want and I use that. Recently I began to wonder if this service is of any use. I have not had any feedback (not that I need a lot of thanks, but it would be nice to know if the hats are being used) and so I prayed to know if I should keep doing this, if it is acceptable to God.
After making another sixty hats, I realized that the drawers where I keep my yarn are still full and I have not added any new yarn to them. I am taking that as a yes; my service is acceptable. Even though this is not as dramatic as having food during a famine, I now have an idea of how Zarephath felt when she kept going to the barrel and finding that it still had meal in it when she kept taking some out without putting any in. Heavenly Father answers our prayers in many ways and I am very grateful for this amazing and sacred answer.
