Tithing
All my life I have paid tithing. It would never occur to me not to give the Lord his 10th. Actually, the way I see it, He lets me keep 90% of what He gives me. Anyway, during my second at year at Brigham Young University (BYU) in Provo there came one week when I completely ran out of money. I had paid all of my bills, but had none left for food. Calling my parents for help was not an option, they were struggling themselves. So I prayed. I told Heavenly Father my problem and reminded him that I had paid my tithing and hoped that He would now provide a way for me to pay my weekly food bill.
Within a day or so I received a phone call from someone who wanted to buy a book I had used the previous semester. The bookstore was sold out, but the teacher remembered me and suggested I might still have my copy and I did. I sold it for the exact amount I needed to pay my weekly food bill. The guy who bought it sent a friend to pick it up.
That isn't the end of the story. When Dennis and I got married I found that book among his things. He had been the one who purchased it. Technically, I got my book back. We always receive blessing for obeying the commandments. We never know what those blessings might be, but they will come.

20 There is a law, irrevocably decreed in heaven before the foundations of this world, upon which all blessings are predicated—
21 And when we obtain any blessing from God, it is by obedience to that law upon which it is predicated.
