Gunshots

When we first moved to Pocatello, Dennis and I lived in some apartments at 1011 E. Cedar. The lady in the apartment next to us was having marital problems and her husband was living elsewhere. Her kids knew they were not supposed to let their Dad in the house. Well, one night just after we went to bed I heard someone out on her balcony and looked out just as the husband climbed in one of her windows. Pretty quick I could hear someone crying in the bathroom and then a little bit later I heard a couple of gunshots.

At that time we had a phone in the bedroom with a long cord and I pulled it out into the hall and called the police. I was terrified that someone was already dead and he might come looking for us if he knew I was calling for help. I went to the living room to watch for the police (they got lost and didn't show up for about half an hour). I was really surprised to see the neighbor drive up. I ran out to stop her and tell her what had happened - I was afraid she would go in there and find her kids dead and I was pretty sure he was still in there. She ran in without waiting for the police.

It turned out there had been a babysitter with the kids and the Dad had taken her home and when he came back the kids wouldn't let him in. He had fired his gun into the air out in the parking lot (who knows why). No one was hurt, thank goodness. I have no idea if he faced any legal charges.
