Driverless car
One day I was driving to work with Heather in the car. It was probably 1988. We were on Jefferson, approaching Elm, when I noticed a car approaching from my right. It as going really slow. I got the feeling it was not going to stop at the stop sign and I couldn't see a driver. My first thought was that the driver must be a really short short old lady, one that could barely see over the steering wheel. You know the kind. You wonder how they can drive at all. But as the car went in front of me I couldn't see a driver at all! So I figured whoever was driving must have had a heart attack or something and I followed the car, which was going fairly straight. However, within a block it ran into a telephone pole and stopped. I got out and took a deep breath to prepare myself before opening the door. Imagine my surprise when I opened the door and found no one inside! The keys were in the ignition so I turned it off and told some people in a nearby driveway my name and asked them to call the police as I was late for work. Never did find out the rest of the story. Someone got a surprise when they went looking for their car......
