Crocheting

When I was in Primary we all learned to crochet and knit. Over the years I crocheted many afghans, and other things. For a short time some of my items were for sale at Mormon Handicraft in Salt Lake City. I was really shocked one day to see an item of mine on display in the window of that very famous store! Mom sold many items there, also. After having carpel tunnel surgery and a shattered wrist, I gave it up. In about 2014 the Stake asked us to knit or crochet hats for the local cancer center. I had never made hats, but decided to give it a try. I was surprised to find that the exercise actually helped my wrist to feel better. The hats were much lighter than afghans and quicker to finish. I was hooked. I soon used up most of my scrap yarn and ran out of friends and family who needed hats.  I started looking for places to donate them. People who heard what I was doing began giving me yarn they had but no longer needed. I took some to the police department for the officers to give out and someone there called the media.

I've had a lot of joy doing this and hope to keep doing it for a long time to come. The best part was this week when my granddaughter, Stefanie, said she hopes someday she can do something similar. I never thought anyone might be inspired by what I'm doing. You never know.
